COURSE OVERVIEW

COURSE OBJECTIVE

COURSE CALENDAR

Implant dentistry provides a viable tooth replacement treatment modality and is considered mainstream dentistry. The benefits and advantages of dental implants for our patients are now being provided by clinicians of diverse disciplines, backgrounds and experiences. However, clinical realities and scientific literature have provided evidence of various modes of implant complications and failures. Complications and failures in implant dentistry can range from minor to major, reversible to irreversible and problematic to detrimental. As a result, these clinical problems can cause frustrations and disappointments for our patients and the dental professionals. Taking the time to avoid complications, rather than managing these compromised outcomes will be the main focus of this symposium.

The rapid growth of technical innovations and treatment concepts in implant dentistry can be beneficial to our patients or confusing to the practicing clinicians.  A careful review of the risks, benefits and alternatives to these new innovations will be addressed by leading experts in their respective fields. Innovations in the treatment planning, surgical parameters and prosthetic phases of implant dentistry will be covered and updated by recognized specialists.

To evaluate the various topics in implant complications and innovations, this symposium will address implant dentistry through an interdisciplinary team approach. The distinguished speakers and specialists will cover pertinent topics to identify the different modes of complications, etiology, prevention and treatment of dental implant complications. Innovations that serve benefits and advantages to our patients and practices will be reviewed and addressed by various speakers.

This symposium will consist of one full day of didactic sessions and a second day of model-based hands-on workshops.

Day one will consist of didactic presentations from distinguished dental specialists (Prosthodontists, Oral Surgeon, Periodontists)
  • Understand the classifications, incidence, and failure rates associated with various implant complications
  • Recognize early signs of implant complications and apply preventive strategies before they occur
  • Apply a range of clinical techniques to manage and treat implant complications across different classifications
  • Understand the latest technologies and innovations available to optimize clinical outcomes and minimize complications

This course will outline and address the various components of implant complications and failures, with the objective of developing a comprehensive understanding of the following topics:

A) Patient Selection Criteria for Implant Dentistry
  • Medical indications and contraindications
  • Dental history assessment and evaluation of risk factors
  • Evaluation of the patient’s psychological status and treatment expectations

B) Treatment Planning Complications
  • Differentiation between prosthetically driven and surgically driven treatment plans
  • Determination of the number and positioning of dental implants specific to each treatment modality
  • Sequencing and timing of treatment protocols
  • Selection criteria for implant diameter and length as they relate to the final prosthetic restoration
  • Management of implant occlusion and parafunctional habits

C) Clinical Complications
  • Various modes of clinical complications related to oral surgery, grafting procedures, soft tissue management, and implant prosthetics
